Caught in the weather

Maintain VFR they said. It'll be fun, they said... Well, marginal VFR weather today. Much worse than expected. My plan was to go even further northwest, from Sitka to Yakutat. But due to the deteriorating weather situation, I diverted to Gustavus. Welcome to Alaska.

Last checks before take-off.

Departing Sitka on runway 11. Beautiful sunrise.

Heading northwest now.

Passing 6,600 feet and still climbing. Rain everywhere. No chance to climb above this thick cloud layer. Weather situation further along my planned route is worsening. I need another plan. Will be diverting.

While flying above the water and staying away from terrain I descended back below 2,000 feet. Heading towards PAGS already. Visibility could be better, though. Need to focus now and keep monitoring.

Airport in sight right in front of me. No rain at this point, but clouds closing in again. Visibility however is good enough.

Crossing midfield to enter the left-hand downwind for runway 11.

Short final.

And here I am. Parked her right next to the office. Boy I need a good coffee now.

Wow again, Markus! So beautiful!

Love those weather challenges - and a wide body of water below Smile

The light effects are incredible and that Beaver must be a joy to fly!

I happen to be at the Bear Track Inn so I'll have nice cup of coffee ready for ya Wink

I'm using ActiveCamera in FS9 which allows for smooth and predetermined views positions in VC mode. I suppose MSFS2020/2024 may have that as default already?

Thanks Joao, I'll meet you there in a minute! Smile

FS2020/2024 both do have many preset view positions not only in VC, but also in the cabin (if applicable). You may also set and select your own view points. So many that you need to write them down, actually. And there is a nice drone camera which you may set up as well. If you have a spare gamepad for example.

The real weather function is a real beast in this sim. It downloads and converts real-world weather information in real time and throws it to your face Wink

Thanks Markus!

"in this sim" you mean 2024 or also 2020?

I don't remember FS2020 exactly, but FS2024 definitely has better visuals and supposedly a more complex weather simulation.
