Didn't get a chance to grab my camera before departing. We had a weather window open up around 1400 local, and we took advantage of it. Got the survey team and their gear loaded up after topping off the fuel. Got up just after 2pm and proceeded direct to PAKI. We stayed around 1,000ft with a very stiff wind out of the south. Had to hold about a 10-degree left of course correction the whole way. Thankfully it was a short hop. Touched down a little harder than I would like to at PAKI, but had to make sure we landed almost full-stall due to the unpredictable winds today. Hoping to get these guys where they need to go next and get back to Bethel soon.

AWCEO M7 20251114 AER003 PABE PAGG 041
Route: Bethel (PABE) → Kwigillingok (PAGG)
Aircraft: Maule M7-235B (Recon-configured)
Departure: 11:00 AKST
Flight Time: 41 minutes
Today was my first reconnaissance leg, departing Bethel right at 11:00 - to make the most of the short November daylight.
With the sun finally clearing the horizon and sitting just high enough to soften the shadows, conditions were ideal for aerial photography — one of the few advantages of winter flying in western Alaska.
The Maule carried our standard AW Recon Kit, including handheld high-resolution cameras, a GPS-logging tablet, and a compact drone pack. Nothing is permanently installed; everything is modular and strapped in for use on any airframe, which makes these missions flexible but also demands discipline from the crew.
Climbing out of Bethel the light opened beautifully, weather providing a good platform for the first photo sets of the day.
Once the sun angle was right, we descended again toward Kwigillingok to begin the low-level segment. The coastline showed significant flooding, debris fields, and several damaged access paths into the village — all photographed and geotagged for upload to the Ops Center.
Touchdown at PAGG was smooth despite the uneven terrain and the 15kts mid-crosswinds.
That was a productive start to the AER003 mission.
More legs to follow!
